Introduction to Jujutsu Kaisen
The Japanese manga Jujutsu Kaisen has taken the world by storm ever since it first debuted in 2018. The story of high schooler Yuji Itadori battling evil curses in his quest to save his soul has become one of the best selling mangas of all time. Seeking to capitalize on this, the makers behind the project quickly gave the go-ahead for an anime adaptation with Season 1 debuting in 2020. Season 2, divided into two parts, is currently streaming across the globe.
The Storyline and Main Character
Jujutsu Kaisen centers around Yuji Itadori, an extraordinarily talented high school student who finds his life changed for the worse in an instant. An accidental summoning of vile beasts sees Itadori swallowing a talisman - a decomposed finger - to save his peers. As a result, Yuji is now possessed by Sukuna, a horrific beast who is also the king of curses, and his life will never be the same again.
The Conflict and Yuji's Quest
With the vile Sukuna flowing inside his body, Yuji is sentenced to death by the curse-fighting sorcerers, who fear Yuji might release the beast into the world if he is not killed instantly. However, an acquaintance proposes a creative solution to postpone Yuji’s execution; Sukuna’s 20 fingers are dispersed all around the world and Yuji would have to track down and ingest every finger to absorb Sukuna completely into his body. If Itadori is killed after this fact, Sukuna will be fully vanished.
The young student accepts this and enrolls in Jujutsu Tech High School in order to begin training for the monumental task ahead.
Characters and Appeal
Full of macabre imagery, quirky protagonists and real, devastating stakes; Jujutsu Kaisen is everything an anime fan could want and more. Part of the anime’s appeal lies in its characters, all of whom range from outcasts to devilish fiends. Apart from Yuji, there’s the indifferent yet insightful Megumi Fushiguro, the confident and snarky Nobara Kugisaki and the brute Maki Zen'in. Lets not forget about the highly popular Satoru Gojo whose style and charisma make the series ten times better. Weirdly enough, there is even a cursed corpse on Yuji’s team in the form of a giant Panda.

The best thing about Jujutsu Kaisen are its slickly animated fight sequences with a form of zany energy that bursts out of the screen. The battles are both brutal and horrific and they make the show infinitely rewatchable with characters you can relate to.
