Valentines Gifts: Pop Culture Jewelry for The Ones You Love
February 14 is the day we celebrate St. Valentine. Or, at least, it’s one of the days we celebrate at least one of the Saints named Valentine. While the Catholic Church also cites St. Valentine as the patron saint of epileptic and beekeepers, he, and thus his feast day of Feb 14, is perhaps best known for him being the patron saint of lovers. The history of Valentine’s Day traces back to at least the 14th Century, and ties into- depending on who you ask- The Saint performing secret weddings, a connection to the sexy Roman holiday known as Lupercalia on Feb 15, or just to come up with something fun during a cold, dark month.
These days, Valentine’s Day is more about exchanging small cards to classmates and friends, and, if you’re in a relationship, going on a fancier than average date. If you’re not in a relationship, the holiday might serve as an annoying reminder of that fact. In any case, it is generally a lighthearted and warmly color-coded celebration of love.
I LOVE YOU…I KNOW!
Depending on who you ask, the exchange between Leia and Han towards the end of Empire Strikes Back is either an eye-rolling statement of Solo’s cockiness, one of the most romantic exchanges in the franchise- or at least the original trilogy. In any case, Harrison Ford was originally supposed to say, “I love you too” but apparently the actors just weren’t feeling the scene and his improvisation became movie history. We originally had a number of popular items celebrating this exchange. However, most were SO popular, that they have sold out. We do, however, have this really cool “I love you I know” mobius necklace! (Mobius, as in the strip, which twists into itself. Named after this guy, not this guy.
SUPERHERO JEWELRY TO EXPRESS BEING AN UNUSUAL COUPLE.
Do you and your partner have something special? Different? Unique? Perhaps you march to the beat of your own drum, or maybe one of you is a second-generation superhero with magic powers in love with a vibranium synthazoid powered by an infinity stone? Or you’re just unique and want people to know about it? Perhaps the perfect solution to this…well, it’s not really a problem, but you should still consider a matching set of our Unusual Couple Lapel Pin featuring Wanda and Vision from the Avengers films and specifically as shown in glorious grey tones from the Disney+ show.
To jump from one Superhero mega-franchise to another, another unusual couple is the Joker and Harley Quinn. Unhealthy, yes, but also unusual. You might even say that HQ and Mistah J have what you’d call a Love/Hate relationship. In fact, we say it pretty directly with this set of 4 pins, so you can celebrate your love, or your hate, or simply your fandom of some of Batman’s less favorite neighbors. The romance between these two has been told a few different times in a few different reboots, but usually doesn’t go so well and ends up with Harley seeking more healthy company. In some stories, this means Poison Ivy. In the live action feature, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) Harley dumps the Clown Prince of Crime and spends her time with Bruce, a fellow who is roughly on par with the Joker in terms of friendliness and social skills. You can celebrate the latter “love” story with this lovely and colorful Heart Pin. (For legal purposes, Jewelry Brands and it’s parent companies, affiliates, employees, neighbors, and friends do NOT endorse making close-up kissy faces to a hyena, real or CGI.)
POP CULTURE JEWELRY FOR NON ROMANTIC LOVE
Okay, we know that Harley loved Bruce the Hyena as a pet. Not all love is romantic love. For instance, the ancient Greeks acknowledged six different forms of love. One can love romantically, playfully, have a universal love for everyone, or have a loving friendship. Such is the case with one of the most lovable characters in any galaxy, R2-D2! To honor this heroic droid as one of the universal symbols of love, we put a picture of him in the other universal symbol of love to create this ultimate expression of love in pendant form! In the original trilogy, R2D2 has another unusual relationship with protocol droid C-3PO. Since most of us only understand the latter’s speech, it does sound like they bicker like an old married couple, but they stick together like best friends. They’re adorable! How adorable? Well, just look at them together in this cute keychain! Do you have someone you feel the same way about? Or maybe someone you do have romantic love for but just aren’t into conventional jewelry? Try our interlocking R2-D2 and C-3PO themed interlocking ring necklace! We’ll sell you the necklace, you figure out which one of you is tall and gold and which one of you is short and cute.
What’s that you say? You’re BOTH short and cute? Or maybe you’re as tall and fierce as a wookie and just like short and cute things? Why not get this R2-D2 & BB-8 best friend necklace set! Once again, who gets which is up to you, but feel free to just buy your own set and wear both together! Just don’t tell C-3PO that R2 has a new best friend.
THE GREATEST LOVE OF ALL
In addition to romantic love and friendly love, there is universal love. What does everyone love? Well, according to the experts, all kids love LOG! You’re gonna love it: log! Log, as in the fictional product based on real-life logs, as featured in the Ren & Stimpy show, now available in convenient pin form! Come on and get your log!
…and with let, we here at Jewelry Brands want you to know that we love you. We hope you love our products. Happy Valentine’s Day and hope to hear from you soon.
