Black Adam is Here! …And of Course, We Have Jewelry to Prove It!

Over the years, there’s been some confusion about DC’s Captain Marvel, since there’s also a Marvel Captain Marvel (and that opens up a can of worms right there!) DC’s Captain Marvel is also known as Shazam! Although not always entirely accurately, but that discussion opens yet another can of worms. The 2019 film Shazam! Was much more upbeat and lighthearted than most other DC Extended Universe films, and was the result of planning and some false starts since the early 2000’s. Some of these plans involved including Black Adam as the antagonist, and for Dwayne Johnson to portray either him or the hero. Johnson did wind up voicing the Black Adam (as well as several other characters) in the 2022 film, DC League of Super-Pets, and is the star of the eponymous 2022 film. Johnson has stated that Black Adam the film is his passion project.

So who IS Black Adam?

Comic canon is that Black Adam, aka Teth-Adam, which translates as “Mighty Adam” or “Mighty Human,” is both the ancient Egyptian precursor to, and the arch-rival of Captain Marvel/ Shazam. He first appeared in 1945’s Marvel Family Comics #1 where he got the nickname “Black” Adam. Of course, much like many other famous characters that have been around that long, Black Adam’s backstory and deeds have been rebooted and revised over the decades. While known early on as the “World’s Mightiest Villain,” he is later described as a “violent protector,” and is referred to as an antihero. As for his role as hero, villain, antihero in the film? Well, we don’t want to give away any secrets. We’re here to add to your filmgoing experience, not spoil it!

Other DC characters appearing include Dr. Fate, Hawkman, Cyclone, Atom Smasher, and Amanda Waller, who is once again played by Viola Davis.

Black Adam premiered on Oct 3, 2022. More information may be found on the official film hub page and the official website
