R2-D2 has existed from the fall of the Republic to the beginning of the New Order. The clever droid went through thick and thin to see his friends rise to victory. As a loyal partner and expert starship mechanic, R2-D2 is an icon of the Star Wars saga.

At the start of the prequel trilogy, R2-D2 was the last surviving droid on Queen Amidala's royal starship. Artoo repaired the ship during heavy fire so that it could safely escape into hyperspace. From this feat, Artoo was now a droid to accompany Padmé Amidala and became Anakin Skywalker’s companion during the Clone Wars.

Artoo’s fate truly intertwined with the Star Wars saga once Princess Leia hid the plans of the Death Star in the droid’s memory banks. It was then sent on a mission to find Obi-Wan and soon accompanied Luke Skywalker through the rest of their journey from Tatooine to the final Battle of Endor.

After many years in low-power mode, R2-D2 encountered BB-8 to transfer the location of Luke in exile, to where he could reunite with his old master once again. Across three generations, this droid witnessed many battles and made many friends. The galaxy would not be the same without R2-D2.
