Whether it's Hal Jordan or Guy Gardner, the DC superhero Green Lantern has made his mark on the cultural zeitgeist, proudly standing alongside the likes of Batman and Superman.
Who are the Green Lanterns?
The title ‘Green Lantern’ has been the moniker of numerous heroes, both human and alien, appearing in DC comics. Green Lanterns fight intergalactic evil with the aid of cosmic rings that create solid constructs out of pure imagination. The rings also grant Lanterns a variety of extraordinary powers (including flight, space travel and invulnerability), all of which come from the electromagnetic spectrum of emotional willpower.
Green Lanterns are part of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic law enforcement agency that has wide ranging powers but some Lanterns also appear as antagonists with nefarious goals (the Sinestro Corps is one such group). While Alan Scott was the first Lantern to be introduced, it is later iterations of Hal Jordan and John Stewart who remain the most popular today. The characters’ vast adventures have involved the Green Lantern Corps, the Justice League, the JSA and other team iterations in all of DC media.
