The Sorcerer Supreme of Earth would not be seen without the Eye of Agamotto. It is their duty to protect the Time Stone housed within the talisman and use its power wisely. The ability to control time at a large or small scale is a serious matter. Users can restore something to its previous form but also have the ability to resurrect the dead by rewinding time to a point prior to their death.

To protect the Eye of Agamotto, Doctor Strange placed an unbreakable spell outside of the talisman that cannot be removed even after death. If the Eye is touched by an enemy, the spell burns their hand and makes it even more impossible to obtain. The only way for the Time Stone to release from the talisman is if the Sorcerer Supreme willingly opens the eye and gives up the stone.

The Time Stone is among the most powerful artifacts in all existence and it cannot be held or used by anyone not powerful enough to withstand it. Because of this, the original Sorcerer Supreme created the Eye of Agamotto to house the stone and give advanced sorcerers the ability to wield the power of time itself.
